Keep Your Teeth Healthy with Professional Oral Hygiene Care

Good oral hygiene is essential for maintaining a healthy smile, but even with regular brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar can build up in areas that are difficult to clean at home. Professional oral hygiene treatment helps remove these deposits, protect your gums, and reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

At Freemans Bay Dental, our gentle and thorough hygiene treatments are designed to keep your teeth clean, your gums healthy, and your smile looking its best.

What Is Included in an Oral Hygiene Treatment?

Your hygiene appointment is focused on thoroughly cleaning your teeth and promoting long-term oral health. Depending on your individual needs, your treatment may include:

  • Professional removal of plaque and tartar (scale and clean)
  • Polishing to remove surface stains
  • Gum health assessment
  • Evaluation for signs of gum disease
  • Personalised brushing and flossing advice
  • Oral hygiene education and preventive care recommendations
  • Fluoride treatment (if recommended)

Our goal is to help you maintain a clean, healthy mouth while preventing future dental issues.

Gentle and Personalised Preventive Care

Good oral hygiene is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. While brushing and flossing at home are important, professional oral hygiene treatments help remove plaque and tartar that cannot be eliminated through daily cleaning alone. At Freemans Bay Dental, our gentle hygiene treatments are designed to prevent dental problems, protect your oral health, and keep your smile looking and feeling its best.

We understand that every patient has different oral health needs. During your appointment, we’ll assess your teeth and gums, provide a thorough clean, and offer practical advice to help you improve your daily oral hygiene routine.

Our friendly team is committed to making your visit comfortable while helping you achieve long-lasting oral health.

Our dentists recommend regular 6 monthly hygiene appointments (or annual if your teeth are in very good shape) to the patients. Regular hygiene visits help improve gum health, fresher breath and a cleaner smile whereas poor oral hygiene can lead to bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease which if left untreated can lead to severe dental problems in future.

Cost Involved – For a regular Full mouth hygiene clean & Air-polishing,  you are looking at $255, but in case of excessive deposits or long time gap between cleans or extra deposits due to braces etc, there might be a need for an extra session of clean required in some cases and dentist will advise you of any additional costs involved in this scenario.

Everything You Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an oral hygiene treatment?
An oral hygiene treatment is a professional cleaning performed by a dentist or dental hygienist to remove plaque, tartar, and surface stains from your teeth. It helps maintain healthy teeth and gums while preventing common dental problems.
How often should I have an oral hygiene treatment?
Most people benefit from a professional hygiene treatment every six months. However, if you have gum disease or are at a higher risk of dental problems, your dentist may recommend more frequent visits.
Why can't brushing and flossing alone remove tartar?
Once plaque hardens into tartar, it cannot be removed with regular brushing or flossing. Professional dental instruments are needed to safely remove tartar and protect your gums from disease.
Is an oral hygiene treatment painful?
Most patients find the treatment comfortable. If you have sensitive teeth or inflamed gums, you may experience mild discomfort, but our team uses gentle techniques to make your visit as comfortable as possible.
Will a professional clean whiten my teeth?
An oral hygiene treatment removes surface stains caused by coffee, tea, wine, and smoking, making your teeth appear cleaner and brighter. However, it does not change the natural colour of your teeth like professional teeth whitening does.
Can oral hygiene treatment help prevent gum disease?
Yes. Regular professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar that can lead to gum disease. Combined with good home care, hygiene treatments are one of the best ways to keep your gums healthy.
What are the signs that I may need an oral hygiene treatment?
You may benefit from a hygiene appointment if you notice bleeding gums, bad breath, plaque build-up, swollen gums, or if it's been more than six months since your last professional clean.
